Welcome to StoreDev Hub — the Shopify academy

Why we're publishing a free, independent Shopify academy — and what you can expect from the three learning tracks.

If you build on Shopify — or you run a store on it — keeping up is exhausting.

Two Editions a year. A weekly developer changelog. A handful of API versions to track. A new dashboard surface every few months. Plus the constant background hum of Shopify Functions, Hydrogen, Markets, B2B, checkout extensibility, metaobjects, web pixels — each one with its own docs, its own deprecations, its own “you should be doing this differently now.”

We started StoreDev Hub for a simple reason: we got tired of doing that work twice. Once for our own consulting team. Once again, in slack threads, for friends asking “wait, did Shopify deprecate that?”

So we made it public.

What StoreDev Hub is

StoreDev Hub is an independent Shopify academy. Three learning tracks, all free, all in one place:

  1. Shopify Updates — every meaningful change Shopify ships, translated from release-note speak into “what you should actually do this week.”
  2. Developer Help — Liquid, themes, apps, Hydrogen, Functions, Storefront and Admin GraphQL. Code-first tutorials that we test in real dev stores before publishing.
  3. Merchant Solutions — performance, SEO, conversion, checkout, ops. Practical playbooks for the people running stores, not for the people writing landing pages about running stores.

Every post belongs to one track. Every post is tagged so you can subscribe to just the stream you care about.

What it isn’t

We’re not affiliated with Shopify Inc. We don’t sell apps. We don’t take client work — there’s no “consulting upsell” hidden behind the content. The whole site is free to read, with no paywalls and no premium tier.

We will occasionally recommend a tool or an app, but only when we’ve used it on a real store, and we’ll always say so up front.

What’s coming

Over the next few weeks we’ll be publishing the foundations of each track:

  • Updates: a roundup of the last Shopify Edition, plus deeper dives on checkout extensibility and the metaobjects API.
  • Developer Help: “Liquid for the impatient developer,” then theme architecture for Online Store 2.0, then a Hydrogen 2025 walkthrough.
  • Merchant Solutions: the 60-minute Shopify performance audit, the 2026 SEO checklist, and a product-page conversion playbook.

If there’s something specific you want us to cover, tell us. We pick reader requests for the calendar every month.

Thanks for reading. Welcome to the academy.
